That&#8217;s according to the latest reading of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/107-do-you-feel-burnt-out-at-work\">ongoing query<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/\">Comparably<\/a>. The data is based on the responses of more\u00a0than 5,000 workers across the tech industry.<\/p>\n<p><b>Design workers report highest rates of burnout<\/b><\/p>\n<p>At 56%, people who work in design report the highest rates of burnout. Those in customer support, and admin roles reported the next highest rates, while those in HR and executive roles reported the lowest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/107-do-you-feel-burnt-out-at-work\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1376\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1376\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/kindustry.png\" alt=\"kindustry\" width=\"926\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/kindustry-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/kindustry-768x404.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/kindustry.png 926w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Burnout by city<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fifty-nine\u00a0percent of respondents in Portland described themselves as burnt out. That\u2019s higher than the average of about 49% nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portland was followed next by Phoenix (55%), Denver (54%) and New York (52%). San Francisco, often considered the pressure cooker of America\u2019s tech scene, ranked No. 11\u00a0out of the 15 cities on the list: 48% of the respondents there claim they feel burnt out by their work. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The cities where workers reported the least burnout were Salt Lake City, Chicago, Austin, and Seattle (all at 47%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/107-do-you-feel-burnt-out-at-work\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1374\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1374\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/lol.png\" alt=\"lol\" width=\"856\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/lol-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/lol-768x415.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/lol.png 856w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Burnout gets worse as careers progress<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work burnout can take many forms, but is generally described as a state of chronic mental and emotional stress that makes it harder to make decisions and get motivated. The rate of it generally increases as people move further into their careers: 44% of entry-level workers experienced work burnout compared to 51% of workers a decade or more into their career, according to Comparably.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/107-do-you-feel-burnt-out-at-work\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1375\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1375\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/2-4.png\" alt=\"2\" width=\"917\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/2-4-300x66.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/2-4-768x168.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/08\/2-4.png 917w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b> Burnout\u00a0is less of an issue in older age<\/b><\/p>\n<p>From an age perspective, work burnout remained mostly steady near 50% until age 51, when it begins to drop off.
