Career goals are important, but for nearly half of workers, the path forward is a bit murky.<\/p>\n

Fifty-four percent of men and 50 percent of women say they have clear goals and a career plan, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query<\/a> by Comparably<\/a>. The latest reading, which is as of Sept. 11, includes the responses of more than 10,000 workers\u00a0in the technology industry.<\/p>\n

Young workers had the most clarity<\/b><\/p>\n

Sixty percent of workers aged 18 to 25 said they have clear goals and a career plan. That’s the most of any age group. From there, the percentage declines, hitting a low of 48% among 46 to 50 year olds.<\/p>\n

By experience<\/b><\/p>\n

Apparently the more experience a person has at a company, the less confident they are in having clear goals and a career plan. Workers in entry-level roles at their companies were most likely to say they had clear goal and a plan, while those with over 10 years at their company were least likely to say they had clear goals and a plan.<\/p>\n

By department and gender<\/b><\/p>\n

Men and women in executive roles tended to say they had clear goals and a career plan at higher rates than any other group. Women in communications and business development roles said they had the least career clarity.<\/p>\n

By diversity<\/b><\/p>\n

Sixty-four percent of African Americans surveyed said they had clear goals and a career plan, followed next by Native Americans (61%) and Hispanic\/Latino workers (58%), Asian\/Pacific Islanders (55%), Other (56%) and Caucasians (51%).<\/p>\n
