The rate is higher in the tech sector, at 46%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/115-do-you-feel-that-you-ve-been-held-back-in-your-career-because-of-your-gender\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1939\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1939\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/tech1.png\" alt=\"tech1\" width=\"894\" height=\"107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/tech1-300x36.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/tech1-768x92.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/tech1.png 894w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>1 in 4 millennials feel gender has held them back in their careers<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Overall, 23% of men and women aged 18 to 35 say they feel their gender has held them back in their careers. That\u2019s a higher concentration than workers in the 36-45 age group (19%), and mostly in line with workers aged 46 and up (22%).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1896\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/ood.jpg\" alt=\"ood\" width=\"521\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/ood-300x97.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/10\/ood.jpg 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 521px) 85vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The three tech departments where women feel most held back<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Women who work in the following departments at technology firms reported the highest rates of feeling held back in their careers: finance (68%), engineering (63%) and executive (63%). These rates are for all age groups.<\/p>\n<p><b>African Americans most often report that gender has held them back in their careers<\/b><\/p>\n<p>From an ethnicity standpoint, African American women were most likely to say gender has held them back in their careers, at 32%.
