They should be seen in the way the organization hires and promotes, serves internal and external customers, delivers feedback, and motivates employees to produce good work. Together, those values help create company culture, one of the key factors in talent attraction and retention.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, many companies fail to live and breathe the positive, caring values they claim to have. Hoping to get a sense of how closely companies are standing by their culture and values, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/\">Comparably<\/a> asked thousands of workers to share feedback on their own employers. The data, which comes from employees at small, mid-size, and large public and private companies, predominantly in tech, was collected between March 2016 and October 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Respondents were asked:<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; Which of the following set of company values is most meaningful to you?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; What do you think would most improve office cultures across different companies?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; Does your current employer focus on improving your company culture?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; Does your boss hurt company culture?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; Do company leaders do what they should to retain you as an employee?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8212; <b>Transparency, then teamwork. <\/b>37% of people chose \u201ctransparency and integrity,\u201d followed next by \u201cteamwork and winning\u201d (24%). \u201cFun and passion\u201d came in at No. 3 (18%), followed by \u201cspeed and innovation\u201d (13%), and last by \u201cdiversity and inclusion\u201d (7%).<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <b>\u201cBetter leaders\u201d ranks No. 1. <\/b>33% of workers say \u201cbetter leaders\u201d would have the biggest positive impact on company culture overall, followed closely by \u201cmore communication\u201d (30%). \u201cMore transparency\u201d (22%) and \u201cmore diverse employees\u201d (9%) were the next most popular responses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <b>Women are slightly more likely to say their boss negatively impacts company culture. <\/b>35% of women say their boss hurts company culture vs. 32% of men.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <b>Middle-aged employees report the highest levels of saying their boss hurts company culture. <\/b>38% of workers 41 to 45 say they have a boss who hurts company culture. That was the highest level of any age group.
