It may be getting easier to discover what you should be earning through sites such as Comparably<\/a>, but chatting directly with your coworkers about what you earn is still an unpopular move.<\/p>\n

Fifty-two percent of people say they’re “not likely” or “would never” share their salary with coworkers, according to the latest reading<\/a> of an ongoing query by Comparably. More than 10,000 people across the technology industry responded to the query.<\/p>\n

Of the remaining 48% of respondents, 9% of them said they are “very likely” to share their salary with coworkers and 14% said they are “somewhat likely” to share their salary with coworkers. Twenty-five percent said “it depends.”<\/p>\n

Men vs. women<\/b><\/p>\n

Men and women responded nearly identically, with the most popular answer being “not likely” (31%).<\/p>\n

“It depends” most common among employees 35 and below<\/b><\/p>\n

Workers 18 to 30 chose “it depends” more than “not likely.” Workers 30 to 35 ranked them equally (29%):<\/p>\n

Every age group above 35 ranked “not likely” the highest.<\/p>\n

From a department level<\/strong><\/p>\n

The only workers who said “it depends” more\/as frequently as “not likely” were those in design and sales. Everyone else — from product to admin to legal — chose “not likely” most often.<\/p>\n
