Asking for a raise can be uncomfortable for anyone, though women\u00a0appear to struggle with it more than men.<\/p>\n

Fifty-five percent of women say they feel confident asking their boss for a raise, compared with 63% of men, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query<\/a> by Comparably<\/a>. More than 10,000 people responded to the query.<\/p>\n

No significant differences across ethnicity<\/strong><\/p>\n

There were only slight variations in the responses of people of different ethnicities — for example, 62% of Asians or Pacific Islanders say they are confident asking their boss for a raise compared with 59% of Caucasians and African Americans.<\/p>\n

Workers in admin, legal feel least confident<\/strong><\/p>\n

Men and women in administrative roles and legal were least confident about asking their boss for a raise. Women in customer support also registered low levels of confidence.<\/p>\n

Executives were on the other end of the spectrum, with more than three quarters of them saying they feel confident asking for a raise.<\/p>\n

Confidence grows (gradually) with age<\/strong><\/p>\n

Workers in their early years had the lowest levels of confidence (55% among 18 to 25 year olds). Peak confidence was among 46 to 50 year olds (63%).<\/p>\n
