Following the 2024 acquisition and integration of Sterling, the organization had a unique opportunity to redefine two strong, established cultures into a refreshed set of values. Rather than taking a top-down approach, First Advantage designed a culture assessment centered on listening, ensuring the values reflect the real experiences of employees across regions, roles, and legacy organizations.

This approach strengthened trust and credibility from the outset. Employees saw their input translated into how the organization operates, making the values feel authentic and relatable — not aspirational statements, but a reflection of how teams already work.

It also drove a stronger sense of ownership. Because employees helped shape the values, they are more invested in bringing them to life in day-to-day decisions and behaviors. This reinforced alignment during a period of transformation and embedded the values into the day-to-day.

This impact is reflected in strong engagement outcomes with 91% of employees in the 2026 Global Employee Engagement Survey reporting they have a good understanding of First Advantage’s values.

Ultimately, this approach strengthened engagement by closing the loop between listening and action, showing that employee voice directly shapes culture and the employee experience.

Can you share specific examples of how employee feedback directly influenced or changed your company values?

Employee feedback directly shaped both the content and positioning of First Advantage’s company values. What has evolved over time is how deeply and authentically those values are lived across VNation, and employee feedback has been one of the most powerful forces driving that evolution.

We have always believed that listening to our people is not a once-a-year exercise. It is an ongoing commitment, and when our people speak, we treat what they share as both a signal and an obligation to act. That commitment shows up in multiple ways — from our virtual and in-person town halls, where leaders and team members come together to share updates, ask hard questions, and have honest conversations, to the structured listening touchpoints we have built into every stage of the employee journey.

Can you share specific examples of how employee feedback directly influenced or changed your company values?

Celebration is perhaps the clearest example of feedback shaping how a value comes to life. Recognition has always been central to our culture at Victra, but our people told us they wanted recognition that felt more personal, more consistent, and more directly connected to their specific contributions. We listened. That feedback led to the creation of our VNationShoutOut program — a peer-to-peer recognition initiative that gives every member of VNation the ability to celebrate a colleague’s contribution in the moment, in their own words. It has become one of the most visible expressions of our Celebration value in action, fundamentally shifting recognition from something that flows only top-down to something woven into how our teams support and see each other every single day.

We have also made a deliberate investment in structured listening at key moments in the employee journey — at 30 days, 120 days, and at the time of departure. These touchpoints are a direct expression of our Integrity value. They reflect our commitment to being honest with ourselves about where we are falling short and being courageous enough to change when the feedback calls for it. When our people tell us we can do better, we treat that as both a responsibility and an opportunity.

The impact of this approach is validated externally through our annual Great Place to Work certification. For Victra, this is not a marketing credential — it is one of the most meaningful measures we have of whether our values are truly being lived. That certification is earned entirely through the honest voices of our employees, and that is precisely why it matters to us.

Our values give us the framework. Our people bring them to life. That combination is what keeps our culture honest, relevant, and worth being part of.

Check out Victra’s careers page here!

Ambridge Hospitality
View Profile

How has involving employees in defining company values impacted your culture, engagement, or sense of ownership among your workforce?

Grounding our company values in the feedback and experiences of our associates ensured they reflect the realities of the teams who bring our hospitality to life every day.
