Sharing a laugh with your cubicle buddy isn’t just a way to pass the time — most people in\u00a0human resources\u00a0see it as a way of boosting company performance.<\/p>\n

Seventy-six percent\u00a0of HR workers say having fun with their coworkers is “important” or “extremely important” to the company’s success, according to the latest reading of an\u00a0ongoing query<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Comparably<\/a>.\u00a0That’s the highest percentage recorded among the departments surveyed, which included workers in engingeering, design, legal, sales and other jobs at tech companies. More than 5,000 professionals across the tech industry responded.<\/p>\n

A bird’s eye view<\/b><\/p>\n

Sixty-seven percent of all respondents say having fun with coworkers is “important” or “extremely important” to the company’s success. The most popular answers after “important” (40% of the vote) and “extremely important” (27% of the vote) were “neutral” (21%), “slightly important” (8%), and “not important” (4%).<\/p>\n

Men see it as more valuable than women<\/b><\/p>\n

Sixty-nine percent of men say having fun with coworkers is important to company success compared with 54% of women. Women were slightly more likely to say they were “neutral” on the subject.<\/p>\n

Fun is just as significant to\u00a0younger and older workers<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/b>It’s not just young workers who place critical importance on having fun — the percentage of workers who say having fun is either “extremely important” or “important” stays mostly across age groups. A snapshot:<\/p>\n
