But what\u2019s the top one?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/\"><b>Comparably<\/b><\/a> asked users what their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/77-if-you-were-the-boss-whats-the-first-thing-youd-change\" target=\"_blank\">number one priority<\/a> would be if they were the boss. The data comes from the anonymous salary records of almost 26,000 Comparably users across the tech sector.<\/p>\n<p><b>Improve vision\/strategy was the No. 1 response overall<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thirty-one percent of respondents said they would \u201cbetter vision\/strategy,\u201d making it the top response overall. The next most popular responses were \u201cincrease employee pay\u201d (23%) and \u201cimprove office culture\u201d (23%). The least popular responses were \u201cmake a better product\u201d (15%) and \u201ccut expenses\u201d (8%).<b> <\/b><b> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3818 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/LAL.jpg\" alt=\"LAL\" width=\"707\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/LAL-300x83.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/LAL.jpg 707w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Women ranked \u2018increase employee pay\u2019 at nearly the same level of importance as \u2018better vision\/strategy.\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b> <\/b>Twenty-six percent of women surveyed chose \u201cincrease employee pay,\u201d making it the second-most popular response by a percentage point after \u201cbetter vision\/strategy\u201d (27%). Twenty-six percent of them chose \u201cincrease employee pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">18 to 25<b> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3820 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/picu.jpg\" alt=\"picu\" width=\"340\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/picu-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/04\/picu.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 340px) 85vw, 340px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Finance workers chose office culture; admin and customer support chose pay<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Workers in every department \u2013 from engineering to design to HR to legal \u2013 chose \u201cincrease employee pay\u201d as their top answer <b>except<\/b> for finance, customer support, and admin.
