It starts at the top.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why bad bosses are such a bummer. In failing to set clear goals, playing favorites, or being passive-aggressive, they\u2019re dismantling the very thing they should be building. And no one benefits from an environment like that, though plenty of people deal with it every day.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/123-does-your-boss-hurt-your-company-culture\">query<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/\">Comparably<\/a> of more than 1,000 tech employees, one in three respondents said they feel their boss hurts company culture. Separate surveys by Comparably have shown that communication is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/75-what-does-your-direct-manager-most-need-to-improve\">number one\u00a0quality<\/a> people want their bosses to improve, followed next by accountability and positivity. All three qualities are essential to company culture &#8212; when they\u2019re in place, people tend to enjoy the jobs they do and feel that they have a sense of purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/116-do-your-company-leaders-do-what-they-should-to-retain-you-as-an-employee\">fewer than half of workers<\/a> say their company leaders do what\u2019s needed to retain them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Company culture doesn\u2019t just happen.
