And for many people that&#8217;s true. But there\u00a0is a surprising percentage of people who manage to take at least an hour for lunch every day.<\/p>\n<p><b>Overall<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Fifty-two percent of people in tech take an hour or more for lunch each day, according to the latest reading of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/57-how-long-do-you-take-for-lunch-breaks\" target=\"_blank\">ongoing query<\/a> by Comparably. Twelve-percent take 45 minutes, 15% take 30 minutes and another 21% eat at their desks while working. More than 10,000 people in tech companies across the U.S. responded to the survey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4645 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/08\/chiii.jpg\" alt=\"chiii\" width=\"701\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/08\/chiii-300x80.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/08\/chiii.jpg 701w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Engineers do it best<\/b><\/p>\n<p>From a department perspective, the results were even more interesting: people who work in engineering have the highest rates of taking an hour or more for lunch (55%), and just 19% of them say they eat at their desk. People in Houston had the longest lunches (59% take an hour or more) while Phoenix was close behind with 55%.<\/p>\n<p>The Northeast was the worst, with Boston taking the cake.
