{"id":5606,"date":"2018-10-25T14:41:05","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/?p=5606"},"modified":"2018-10-25T14:44:16","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:44:16","slug":"survey-women-in-legal-are-least-confident-in-ais-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/survey-women-in-legal-are-least-confident-in-ais-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey: Women in Legal Are Least Confident in AI&#8217;s Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a time when advances in artificial intelligence promise to revolutionize business as usual, some people are more\u00a0concerned than others.<\/p>\n<p>When Comparably asked more than 1,000 people across the tech world whether the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/160-do-you-think-the-benefits-of-artificial-intelligence-will-outweigh-the-potential-risks\">benefits of AI will outweigh the risks<\/a>, 72% of respondents who work in engineering said yes, the highest rate of any department surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>Those who work in legal had the lowest rates, with just 41% saying they believe the benefits of AI will outweigh the risks.<\/p>\n<p>The results show that those in less &#8220;techy&#8221; jobs overall had lower confidence in AI&#8217;s benefits: sales (44%), customer support (45%), communications (48%) and operations (48%) all had relatively lower rates than the 58% of people who believe AI will be more beneficial than it is risky.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5608 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/mmm.png\" alt=\"mmm\" width=\"704\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/mmm-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/mmm.png 704w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Adding gender into the mix<\/b><\/p>\n<p>From a gender perspective, women are less certain than men overall that the benefits of AI will outweigh the risks (49% of women vs. 65% of men say that AI&#8217;s benefits will outweigh the risks).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5611 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/menwomen.png\" alt=\"menwomen\" width=\"677\" height=\"74\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/menwomen-300x33.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2018\/10\/menwomen.png 677w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking closer at the results, an interesting story emerges: while lawyers are least bullish about AI than any other group,\u00a0it&#8217;s because female lawyers are particularly unconvinced about AI&#8217;s benefits: just 24% of women say they see AI as more beneficial than harmful, while 73% of men say the same.<\/p>\n<p>Other findings?
