It\u2019s the battle of the big box behemoths for today\u2019s Culture Showdown: Target\u00a0<\/b>vs. Best Buy<\/b>. Both companies are hanging on the best they can as the culture continues to shift its focus to online shopping, so the future for both is unclear. But while they\u2019re still standing, let\u2019s take a look via Comparably\u2019s<\/a> data at how employees at both retail chains feel about their workplace culture and how they are treated.<\/p>\n

OVERALL CULTURE<\/b><\/p>\n

\"target<\/p>\n

An employee for Target says the company\u2019s culture is \u201coverall positive\u201d with a \u201cgood environment and people.\u201d Another cites \u201cgreat communication.\u201d One dissenter adds, \u201cMost team members don\u2019t feel like they are respected and thus don\u2019t feel like putting their all into their work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of Best Buy\u2019s company culture, one employee writes, \u201cWe have a big focus on being human, and that carries over to the work environment.\u201d Another adds, critically, that \u201cperformance check-ins and check-outs every day lower self esteem.\u201d<\/p>\n

CEO<\/b><\/p>\n

While one Target employee says the company leadership is \u201copen to new ideas,\u201d another says that \u201cthe executives don\u2019t really care that much about the team members, and tend to view them more as cogs in a machine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Best Buy\u2019s leadership is \u201cgreat\u201d according to one worker. Another notes that CEO Hubert Joly \u201chas shown and executed on an amazing vision for this company.\u201d<\/p>\n

COMPENSATION<\/b><\/p>\n

One Target employee calls the pay \u201cfair.\u201d Another writes, \u201cMinimum wage, not much more needs to be said. Pay increases are drowned out by minimum wage increases.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Best Buy, an employee writes, \u201cThe compensation is good if you\u2019re full time. Which is less than 25% of the store employees.\u201d Another mostly satisfied employee writes, \u201cI just wish we got paid more and got more hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

PERKS & BENEFITS<\/b><\/p>\n

A Target worker singles out the company\u2019s offer of \u201c401k and a bonus payment after serving 10-15 years\u201d as worthy. Another writes, \u201cI don\u2019t really use the benefits. The 401k is nice, though.\u201d Multiple Target employees approve of the company\u2019s flexible time off policy.<\/p>\n

Best Buy offers \u201c401K matching up to 5%\u201d and \u201chealth benefits for full time workers.\u201d Several note that getting time off approved at Best Buy can be a difficult process.<\/p>\n

GENDER<\/b><\/p>\n

Women are more approving of Best Buy\u2019s perks and benefits, rating it at 63 (higher than the average of 55 above.)<\/p>\n

DIVERSITY<\/b>\"Target<\/p>\n

\u201cTarget is inclusive and hires many different kinds of people,\u201d writes one employee. Another adds, \u201cDepending on the diversity of the Target location, you will have the same diversity. Utah, not diverse. Connecticut, diverse.\u201d<\/p>\n
