With International Woman\u2019s Day<\/a> upon us today, Comparably thought the time was fitting to examine\u00a0a few major issues concerning women in the workplace. Today we look at responses from both sexes to the question, \u201cDo you think there are enough females in leadership positions at your company?\u201d Even with much more discussion of our society\u2019s paternalistic nature and the injustices often dealt to women, it\u2019s plain to see there\u2019s still a lot farther to go.<\/p>\n

The information comes from the latest reading of a ongoing study<\/a>\u00a0by Comparably<\/a>. Over 10,000 employees reponded to the question.<\/p>\n

Just 53% of women say that there are enough females in leadership roles at their company.\u00a0<\/b>That means 47% say no, there aren\u2019t enough women leading the way at work \u2013 a substantial number. Men have their back, voting slightly more positively at 59% but clearly displaying a cross-gender awareness of the imbalance.<\/p>\n

When responses are looked at by department, the issue is even more starkly presented. <\/b>Women from the Business Development, Design, Engineering, Human Resources, IT, Marketing and Product departments all voted \u201cyes\u201d at less than 50%, and most other results didn\u2019t come in much higher than that. Men voted at over 50% more often by department, but only men in Customer Support answered yes to the female leadership question as frequently as they did, at 70%.<\/p>\n

By age, most demographics voted at around 55-60%.<\/b>There are two notable exceptions: Workers aged 31-35 dipped to around 50% positive when asked the question about whether there was enough female leadership at their job; and for the 61-65 age groip, the \u201cyes\u201d answers spike to nearly 70%, suggesting that age group has a different idea about the right amount of women in leadership roles.<\/p>\n

Among ethnicities, the Asian\/Pacific Islanders voted notably low at 51%.<\/b>The Hispanic\/Latino and Caucasian divisions answered closely to the average response, at 58% and 56%, respectively. African-American responses were more positive, with 60% saying there was an adequate amount of women in leadership roles at their workplaces.<\/p>\n
