Fifty-eight percent of workers say their companies aren\u2019t doing what they should to hold onto them, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query <\/a>by Comparably<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The responses came from more than 1,000 workers in the technology industry as of June 6.<\/p>\n

HR workers were most optimistic<\/b><\/p>\n

People who work in HR were the most positive about their employers\u2019 ability to retain them. Fifty-nine percent said their company leaders were doing what they should in order to recruit them. The next highest rates were among the executive and sales departments (56% and 48%, respectively).<\/p>\n

IT workers were at the other end of the spectrum, with only 32% of them saying their companies were doing what they should to retain them. People in business development, design and marketing were also pessimistic about their employer\u2019s ability to retain them.<\/p>\n

Older workers were more likely to feel this way<\/b><\/p>\n

People tended to become more negative with age about their employer\u2019s ability to retain them. The most optimistic were the 18 to 25 age group (46% said their employers were doing what they should to retain them), while the least optimistic were those over 50 (36% said their employers were doing what they should to retain them).<\/p>\n

Satisfaction declined with education<\/b><\/p>\n

The more educated a person, the least likely they were to say that their employer was succeeding at retaining them. Fifty-two percent of people with a high school education said their employers were doing what they should, while only 42% of people with their doctorate said the same.<\/p>\n

What goes into retention<\/b><\/p>\n

There\u2019s no single factor that dictates whether or not an employer will succeed at retaining their employees; however, if a company pays their employees fairly, values managers who care about their employees and give regular feedback, and creates a company culture where people have the resources to their job and opportunity for promotion, that\u2019s a good start.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
