{"id":715,"date":"2017-06-06T19:11:49","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T19:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/?p=715"},"modified":"2017-06-15T14:21:27","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T14:21:27","slug":"retain-employees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/retain-employees\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies Aren\u2019t Doing Enough to Retain Employees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fifty-eight percent of workers say their companies aren\u2019t doing what they should to hold onto them, according to the latest reading of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/116-do-your-company-leaders-do-what-they-should-to-retain-you-as-an-employee\">ongoing query <\/a>by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\">Comparably<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The responses came from more than 1,000 workers in the technology industry as of June 6.<\/p>\n<p><b>HR workers were most optimistic<\/b><\/p>\n<p>People who work in HR were the most positive about their employers\u2019 ability to retain them. Fifty-nine percent said their company leaders were doing what they should in order to recruit them. The next highest rates were among the executive and sales departments (56% and 48%, respectively).<\/p>\n<p>IT workers were at the other end of the spectrum, with only 32% of them saying their companies were doing what they should to retain them. People in business development, design and marketing were also pessimistic about their employer\u2019s ability to retain them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/116-do-your-company-leaders-do-what-they-should-to-retain-you-as-an-employee\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-716 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retainHR.png\" alt=\"retainHR\" width=\"693\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retainHR-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retainHR.png 693w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Older workers were more likely to feel this way<\/b><\/p>\n<p>People tended to become more negative with age about their employer\u2019s ability to retain them. The most optimistic were the 18 to 25 age group (46% said their employers were doing what they should to retain them), while the least optimistic were those over 50 (36% said their employers were doing what they should to retain them).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/guest\/culture\/tech\/all-departments\/116-do-your-company-leaders-do-what-they-should-to-retain-you-as-an-employee\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-717 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retentionage.png\" alt=\"retentionage\" width=\"586\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retentionage-300x87.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/retentionage.png 586w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 586px) 85vw, 586px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Satisfaction declined with education<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The more educated a person, the least likely they were to say that their employer was succeeding at retaining them.
