Financial services are often ranked among the richest industries in the U.S. Comparably sought to take five of the biggest financial services companies \u2013 <b>Citi<\/b>, <b>Deloitte<\/b>, <b>Goldman Sachs<\/b>, <b>JP Morgan Chase<\/b> and <b>Morgan Stanley<\/b> \u2013 and compare them not by market value or buzz, but by their company cultures. What is it like to work for one on the big financial services companies? How do the big banks treat their employees behind closed doors?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">OVERALL CULTURE<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7264\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2019\/03\/financial-overall.png\" alt=\"financial (overall)\" width=\"1366\" height=\"694\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2019\/03\/financial-overall-300x152.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2019\/03\/financial-overall-768x390.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2019\/03\/financial-overall-1024x520.png 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2019\/03\/financial-overall.png 1366w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>None of the firms make the \u2018A\u2019 grade for culture when graded by their own employees, but Deloitte did squeak out a 3% win over Goldman and Citi, who were runners-up.<\/p>\n<p>Citi: \u201c<b>The cost cutting across the board has made growth and culture very archaic.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>Not as inclusive and supportive as it promotes itself to be and I think it&#8217;s because management is always chasing the next big project to compete for.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs: <b>\u201cA culture of teamwork and collaboration.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>JP Morgan: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>The atmosphere is so competitive that it can be very draining and exhausting.<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Morgan Stanley: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>It&#8217;s been a top tier organization for a long time and there are some great people, but quality of the people management is not what it once was. Deloitte\u2019s Cathy Englebert and Goldman\u2019s David M. Solomon are close runners-up.<\/p>\n<p>Citi: \u201c<b>I believe leadership is going in the right direction in enhancing digital banking.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte: \u201c<b>Leadership is invested in the development and growth of employees<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs: <b>\u201cI have a very positive view of Solomon.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>JP Morgan: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>Employees have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon. He&#8217;s almost a &#8216;rock-star&#8217; CEO. Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan tied for last place with C+ scores.<\/p>\n<p>Citi: <b>\u201cEverything is good about the compensation.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte: \u201c<b>Increase salaries more. Coming in second by a six-point lag is Morgan Stanley.<\/p>\n<p>Citi: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>Health, disability, life, dental, vision, PTO, maternity leave, corporate discounts.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte: \u201c<b>Every possible benefit. Again, Deloitte is waiting in the wings, just one point behind Citi.<\/p>\n<p>Citi: <b>\u201cWe are diverse but still work and think as one.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>There is a fair amount of diversity &#8211; although it becomes less so at the top of the organization.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs: <b>\u201cThere is diversity among the employees.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Morgan Stanley: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>Gender diversity is reflected well across most divisions. FICC is having difficulties.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>JP Morgan: <b>\u201cBrick and mortar banking is decreasing. Electronic banking is on the rise.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Morgan Stanley: <b>\u201c<\/b><b>It needs to improve to stay at the top or it will slip to a lesser organization.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Results were spread out overall among four of the five companies, with only Morgan Stanley not winning any categories. But with three categories under its belt (Overall culture, Perks &amp; Benefits, and Outlook), <b>Deloitte has the best culture<\/b> from among the five firms we looked at, with a special mention going to their Perks &amp; Benefits score. Goldman Sachs was our runner up, thanks to two wins (Gender and Compensation).
