{"id":943,"date":"2017-06-28T14:00:57","date_gmt":"2017-06-28T14:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/?p=943"},"modified":"2017-10-12T00:48:55","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T00:48:55","slug":"women-in-tech-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/blog\/women-in-tech-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: Best Opportunities for Women in Tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Where are the greatest opportunities for women in tech right now?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>In an effort to provide a positive alternative to the gender pay gap in tech, Comparably dug into its\u00a0data to reveal which companies, CEOs, and cities provide the best cultural fits and compensation opportunities for women.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Since tech is one of the toughest glass ceilings to break through for women, Comparably is uniquely positioned as an expert jobs monitoring resource on the topic as our salary and culture database is comprised largely of employees within this sector.\u00a0Our methodology is below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>KEY FINDINGS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Top Tech CEOs as rated by their female employees<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A dozen CEOs scored an 80%+ approval rating by their \u200bfemale employees. The CEOs of <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/apple\">Apple<\/a><\/b>,<b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/intuit\">Intuit<\/a><\/b>, <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/linkedin\">LinkedIn<\/a><\/b>, and <b>Microsoft <\/b>scored high approval ratings by their female employees even though their respective companies did not make the cut.<\/p>\n<p>An important note: there are fewer women in tech and though there are females in executive positions (COO, co-founder, CTO, CMO, heads of departments), few hold the CEO title and those who do tend to rate lower than their male counterparts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-946\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/ceos-female.png\" alt=\"ceos female\" width=\"452\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/ceos-female-290x300.png 290w, https:\/\/cdn.comparably.com\/00000000\/b\/2017\/06\/ceos-female.png 452w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 85vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Top tech companies as rated by their female employees<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Not surprisingly half of the companies are located in Silicon Valley\/Bay Area (<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/slack\">Slack<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/zenefits\">Zenefits<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/salesforce\">Salesforce<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/chegg\">Chegg<\/a><\/b>) and Seattle (<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/zillow\">Zillow<\/a><\/b>), but it\u2019s Silicon Beach-based <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/cornerstoneondemand\">Cornerstone OnDemand<\/a><\/b> that ranks No. 1 on the list.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/indeed\">Indeed<\/a><\/b> from Austin ranked No. 3 followed by <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparably.com\/companies\/hubspot\">Hubspot<\/a> <\/b>from Boston at No. 4.<\/p>\n<p>The Top 5 large public tech companies didn\u2019t make the cut at all. A large database of hundreds of thousands of salaries and job titles, along with over 1 million structured and comprehensive employee ratings anonymously shared on Comparably, from April 2016 to April 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Employees hail from small, mid-size, and large startups and VC-funded tech companies to household brands like Amazon, Apple, Google, Facebook, Uber, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; The data unveiling the top CEOs and companies women are likely to find most rewarding to work for were based on questions current female employees answered in 5 key categories: 1) compensation; 2) leadership (CEO &amp; executive team); 3) team (co-workers &amp; dept); 4) work environment; and 5) sentiment rating. Questions were in Yes\/No, True\/False, 1-10 scale, and multiple choice format.
