Mr. Joseph A. Miller, also known as Buzz, has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of Southern Power Company since February 2016. Mr. Miller served as an Executive Vice President of Nuclear Development at Georgia Power Co. and Georgia Power Capital Trust VII since May 2009. Mr. Miller is responsible for overseeing the development of nuclear generation expansion efforts. He served as a Vice President of Government Relations at Southern company from May 1999 to February 2006 and was responsible for managing its Washington office staff and efforts with the U.S. Congress and various executive branch agencies and officials. Mr. Miller began his career in the oil field and power plant service industries. He joined Alabama Power in 1986 in the chemistry and environmental support section of Nuclear Generation. He proceeded through a series of assignments at Alabama Powerand Southern Nuclear, prior to his move to Washington, D.C., in 1993 as Federal Affairs manager, where he served one year at theNuclear Energy Institute as acting Vice President of Legislative Affairs. He served as assistant to Southern CompanyChairman, President and Chief Executive Officer BillDahlberg since 1998. He serves as the Chairman at Southern Power Company. He is a graduate of the MIT reactor technology course for utility executive and a 1983 graduate of AuburnUniversity with a BS in chemical engineering.
