Our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Commitments

These DEI Commitments are designed to be embraced and enacted by every person who contributes to Age of Learning products:

5. We will teach and model cultural humility as a lifelong process of critical self-reflection, curiosity, inquiry, and learning; this involves the recognition of power imbalances, respectful partnerships, and institutional accountability as a vital part of all individuals’ education.

6. We will recognize, respect, and celebrate similarities and differences within and across cultures and lived histories, including ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, physical, cognitive and emotional ability, geographic location, language, and religion.

The Age of Learning DEI Task Force:

Our DEI Task Force was initiated to evaluate, recommend, and advise on the implementation of meaningful enhancements to Age of Learning curriculum, content, and product to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Task Force created the following framework to guide its ongoing work within the company: To create and maintain systemic impact, we identify any gaps in our current offerings, then correct and/or create content to eliminate those gaps. The process is cyclical, continuous, and open to all within the company.

Dr. Cynthia A. Tyson is a member of the Age of Learning DEI Task Force, consults on Age of Learning curriculum with a DEI lens, and sits on the Age of Learning Board. She is a professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology, Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University where she teaches courses in Multicultural and Equity Studies in Education, Early Childhood and Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults. Her research interests include inquiry into the historical, social, and cultural intersections of pedagogy and practice related educational equity and justice.
