People are very hard working and serious about their work, but we take time to have happy hours, a few offsites a year (even during Covid), so everyone gets to know each other.
I was brought back several times. Each time I met more people. I also was able to meet with my boss several times, so I really felt like I knew what this place was about and that I could work well with my manager.
They are incredibly strategic. They are also transparent and give us a lot of information about the strategy, how Board meetings go, how our funding and priorities are looking and what we need to focus on. They also are good people managers and make a point of helping people develop.
We close for two weeks a year - once in Winter and then for 4th of July week. We made that change this year after we tried closing for the week of 4th of July last year. When everyone shuts down, you really get a break from Slack, emails, meetings, etc.
