Dr. Roderick MacKinnon, PH.D., M.D., also known as Rod, is a Co-Founder of Flex Pharma, Inc. and serves as its Chair of Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. MacKinnon has been a Director of Flex Pharma, Inc. since February 24, 2015 and serves as its Board Observer. He serves as a Member of Strategic Advisory Board at Longwood Founders Management, LLC. Dr. MacKinnon is an Investigator at Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Professor of Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology and Biophysics at the Rockefeller University. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2003 for his work on ion channel activation, the foundation of approach to preventing muscle cramping. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He has attended Rockefeller University. Dr. MacKinnon holds B.A. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University and M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his medical residency at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School and postdoctoral work at Brandeis.
