Mr. Todd M. Pope has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of TransEnterix, Inc. (alternate name SafeStitch Medical, Inc.) since September 3, 2013. Mr. Pope has spent nearly 20 years in the medical device market with experience in cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, neurovascular and laparoscopic surgery. He spent total of 10 years at various leadership positions at Johnson and Johnson and Boston Scientific. Dr. William Nimmons Kelley, M.D., Ph.D., has been a Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine since February 2000. In the national leadership arena, Dr. Kelley serves as the President of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, President of the American College of Rheumatology. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and Health System, Dean of the School of Medicine. He served as an Executive Vice President of the Pennsylvania University from 1989 to February 2000. He became Chief Executive Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System when it was established in 1993. He was the John G. Searle Professor and Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and Professor of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 1975 to 1989. He has a long history of involvement in experimental models of gene therapy to the Board. He serves as the Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine. He has been an Independent Director at TransEnterix, Inc. since January 1, 2015 and also serves as its Member of Advisory Board. He served as an Independent Director of GenVec, Inc. since June 2002 until June 16, 2017. He served as a Director of Merck & Co., Inc. from 1992 to May 22, 2012. Dr. Kelley received his Medical Degree from Emory University.
