How employees describe working at Northern Virginia Community College
Only recently has NOVA gone downhill. Too much emphasis on micromanaging employees and the culture of care is making the institution a circus of contradiction, confusion, chaos, and misery. I truly believe working at this College will tarnish my resume under the current upper management.
I've worked here for 10 months and it has been the best job I have ever had and I wish I could work here for many more years but I have moved onto another University
NOVA needs more accountability for employees. Accountability among colleagues as well as to mission and supervisor

What's the work from home policy like at Northern Virginia Community College?
Depends upon your position and then it is based upon your supervisor’s determination.
What are you most excited about working at Northern Virginia Community College?
Helping students and providing access and hope for people who want a new path in life.
What benefits does Northern Virginia Community College provide?
Лучший ответ сотрудника
Relatively good work/life balance depending upon department or role. State benefits and retirement savings options are nice. The modest tuition reimbursement has been cut back due to funding. NOVA closes all of its offices from just before Christmas to a few days into the new year so it's nice to have those extra days off in addition to the competitive sick/personal and vacation time.
What are your coworkers at Northern Virginia Community College like?
Лучший ответ сотрудника
Just at like most jobs, there are some rock stars and there are slackers. NOVA is part of the state system so from a management perspective, getting rid of underperforming employees is arduous. People are promoted to positions that often don't match their skill level. There are smart people who try hard to provide good service but can be frustrated by institutional processes that don't make sense. Those people leave. Skill and education level vary. I have met very smart people who have all left their jobs because there was no room or mechanism for career advancement.
What do you like best about the leadership team at Northern Virginia Community College?
Лучший ответ сотрудника
Understanding what is needed to compete and innovate both for students and for workers in the current economic climate.
What makes you most happy at Northern Virginia Community College?
As a state organization, NOVA remains bureaucratic and political. Teamwork, fresh ideas, and innovation should be encouraged and rewarded.
