In 1981, Shearson merged with American Express, where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer. He served as Managing Officer of Ramius HVB. He managed Shearson's acquisitions of Lehman Brothers and E.F. Hutton & Company in 1984 and 1988, respectively. He was a Generalist in Securities Analysis and Investment Banking at Shearson Lehman Brothers in 1970. He began his career on Wall Street at Reynolds & Co. in 1969. He served as Chief Actuary and Senior Vice President of Presidential Life Insurance Company. He served as the Chairman of Republic New York Securities Corporation. He has been Vice Chairman and Director of Scientific Games Corporation since September 2004 and September 2000, respectively and also serves as its Lead Independent Director. He has been Vice Chairman and Director of AT&T Government Solutions, Inc. since 1997. He served as Vice Chairman and a Director of Republic New York Corporation. He has been a Director of Andover Apparel Group since 1981. He serves as a Trustee of The Mount Sinai Hospital. He has been a Director of Safe Auto Insurance Group, Inc. since November 5, 2004 and Safe Auto Insurance Company since May 2002.
