What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining BEI?
Not anything I can think of, I always go in with an open mind and knowing that the job is mine.

How much diversity is there among employees at BEI?
Large diversity, young / old, male / female, self taught / highly educated.
From what I could tell, very diverse.
What's the office layout like at BEI?
Everyone has and office (4 walls and a door)

How long do the interviews usually take at BEI?
At least 2 hours.
Two to Three Hours on average.
What is the best perk or benefit that BEI offers?
They allow you to accumulate time off in one bucket (vacation, sick leave, etc.) and a liberal policy on giving time off.
What are company outings like at BEI?
Events are headed by people that are interested and if enough people sign up, then the company sponsors it.

Friday casual all week.

The owner has two dogs and as long as your pet gets with his, the pet is welcome.

HR about 2 weeks after mailing resume, developer panel about a month after HR, CEO about 2 weeks after panel.
How would you compare interviewing at BEI to other places you've interviewed?
The same, except for the end where the CEO interview.

Knowledgeable and open minded. A willingness to learn new process.
What kind of interview questions do they ask when hiring someone in the IT department at BEI?
The interview process is three step. 1. HR interviews you and administer a test. 2. A panel interview. 3. An interview with the CEO, where the job offer is made.
How flexible is your work schedule at BEI?
As long as you put in the work and meet the mile stones on time. your schedule is what you make it.
What IT department questions did BEI ask during your job interview?
About my IT background, where I saw myself going, how long I planned to work at BEI. What were my interests outside of work, sports - individual, team, or watch, travel - any particular place I have been or wanted to go.
How helpful was your IT team when you were first hired at BEI?
I had a mentor who taught me the methods used by BEI. Everyone is ready to help from the CEO down.
What's the work from home policy like at BEI?
Working from home is based upon project requirements.
Does BEI drug test or do a background check?
BEI is a drug free zone and asks employees to respect this. A background check is done on all employees before the offer of employment is made. If a person is honest about their past, that is the step on the right path.
What's the internship program like at BEI?
Interns are treated like employees and go through the same training.
How does BEI handle HR issues?
There is a full time HR staff. Some of the products created at BEI are for internal use, such as an HR packet.
How does BEI measure success and growth in the IT department?
Success is measured by the products acceptance in the market. Growth occurs by peer review.
What skills do you need to be successful in the IT department at BEI?
An open mind, that says there is nothing impossible, just something that has not been done yet. The IT staff are trained in the BEI method by using what is called "the developer's toolbox".
