Mr. Herman C. Fala has been the General Counsel and Secretary at Liberty Property Trust. since January 2014. Mr. Fala joins Liberty from Cozen O'Connor, where he chaired the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. Prior to joining Cozen O'Connor in 2009, he chaired the real estate department at WolfBlock, LLP, for ten years. Mr. Fala is the Chairman of the Real Estate Department and also chairs the REIT Practice Group and the Hospitality and Gaming Group. He was named a Partner at Liberty Property Trust in 1982. Mr. Fala has represented banks, pension funds, publicly traded companies, insurance companies, REITs and real estate developers in many local and national transactions, including complex acquisitions, mergers, financings, joint venture arrangements, leases, project finance transactions, syndications, public and private debt and equity placements and transactions involving the development and management of hotels, office buildings and other projects. He has extensive experience in the management, financing, acquisition, development and franchising of hotels. Mr. Fala is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Zell-Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Wilma Theater Company and was its Board Chairman from 1995 to 1997. Mr. Fala is on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Club of Philadelphia and the Board of Directors of Central Philadelphia Development Corporation. He served as Chairman of the Real Property Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 1998. Mr. Fala served as the Editor-in-Chief of The Philadelphia Lawyer (published by the Philadelphia Bar Association). He is very active in civic and community affairs, particularly involving arts organizations. Mr. Fala acted as Editor of the Real Property Newsletter, published by the Philadelphia Bar Association and has served on numerous other committees of the Philadelphia Bar Association, including the Professional Responsibility Committee and the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section. He has written numerous articles for that publication. Mr. Fala is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and is listed in the Best Lawyers in America. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1974 and his B.S., summa cum laude, in Physics from the University of Notre Dame in 1971.
