Q&A With Canterbury Park Holding Corporation Employees

Randy Sampson, I truly believes is man who cares about his employees. I think he truly cares about the company. I think if he knew some of the things that have happened. I think it would have a different morale with some of the employees. People are afraid to speak on some shifts in fear of losing their job. It is tough at times. But I would say most are really proud to work with this company because they do feel that Randy does care for his employees

Not really sure on the questions they ask, but I do think the system they have now has been more effective and goes a lot smoother than it has in the past.

They are great!!

Management is being more feared than respected

Seeing customers and certain coworkers.

I hear a lot of customers complaining about promotions lately. I am not aware how Canterbury makes the decisions...but from reactions of customers and employees, they are not favorable

They are very flexible and they give you enough time to be able to plan a vacation and request the time off.

I think they will expand and do well. I think you will see a higher turnover rate if some management still allows the things that they allow to keep happening

They seem to do a lot of their company outings based on HR schedule...and not the needs of others who work other shifts. It does not seem they truly cater the outing to other departments but HR. Now when they do company on site picnics and dinners it makes it easier for others in the company to participate

Not hard at all

Depends on how much sleep I got :) But, there are days that it is tough because the atmosphere seems to be more negative. So I think it has made me more negative over the years.

Communication is lacking a little, but has improved in some areas over the years

Depending on what you think is successful to you. If you are speaking of being able to move up in the company...if you work hard and truly want to move up. There is the possibility, but the higher you want . the longer and harder it is to obtain. The turnover at Canterbury is very low

If I kept to myself I feel more secure. Truthfully. I do not really feel secure writing my responses on this. I truly hope it is anonymous and falls on certain people to at least have them aware of what is going on...because I know everyone is busy doing the things they have to do to keep this business striving and successful. Coworkers are afraid to say anything because of fear of losing their job as well

The customers and coworkers. It is like we are a dysfunctional family.

Steady, I think you have more and more who are just there because they need to be now, not so much as they want to be.

Having an expansion done and new development property being constructed, I am hoping they will bring in other ideas for promotions. It seems like lately that HR has an idea for a promotion and lets the other departments deal with it. Customers have been complaining about the promotions lately. And they seem to focus more on the racing side of it and forget that there is another part of the business that runs 24/7 and do not listen to what ideas that have suggested by our departments

Some of the managements office is so close to other offices...so when you feel need to talk to someone there is always listening. It is too close to many other things.

It is not like it used to be.Has been diminishing.

Nothing really. I think the CEO , and the big players in the game truly care about their employees and want them to be taken care of. I just wish that they also recognize what some of management has been doing. It has been pointed out about one particular one over the years, and nothing really done about it because of friendships and also business partnerships outside of work. I love the place and I think we do the best to show people a great time, but the moral has changed

Scheduled 40, but the energy has been down the last few years, so try and cut back on the hours on days where the energy around there is low.

Most are awesome and can work well together, And certain management that takes advantages of their positions.

I feel like the leadership has died. I think trust in our department has been slowly diminishing. Supervisors sleeping with fellow employees and customers, and more concerned on socializing than active in their position. Also management has been allowing customers to become more aggressive over the past few years, verbally, that it also seems to effect some of our other customers.

In our department it is definitely all about personality. I would say show up 15 minutes before your interview. Look professional and smile!!
