Mr. Gerard J. Watts, also known as Gerry, has been the Chief Operations Officer of Cyanotech Corp. since August 18, 2014. Mr. Watts served as Vice President and General Manager of Haliimaile Pineapple Co. Ltd. He has more than 30 years' experience as a senior operations executive in the Food and Agribusiness industry. He served as Principal Consultant, International Agribusiness for ProducePro Consultancy, where he advised and guided domestic and international firms with regard to fundamental and strategic issues associated with the global produce business. Prior to 2013, he was Chief Operating Officer / General Manager at North Shore Greenhouses, a $10 million fresh grower and shipper of full line living herbs produced in hydroponic greenhouses. While there, he was responsible for all functional business areas, including sales, marketing, production planning, quality control and food safety. He served as President of SunOpta Fruit Group at SunOpta Inc. from May 15, 2008 to 2011. He served as Vice President of Operations and Processing of Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. from May 2, 2005 to September 2006 and served as its General Manager from 2005 to 2008. He served as General Manager of Maui Pineapple Company Ltd., a subsidiary of Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. since March 13, 2007 and served as its Vice President since May 2, 2005. He has an extensive experience in the agricultural industry, particularly in the avocado business. In his various management and executive positions, he has overseen field and production operations, grower relations and business strategy development and implementation. Mr. Watts served as Vice President of Southern Operations at Coastal Berry Company, LLC. Mr. Watts served as Vice President of North American Operations of Calavo Growers Inc. from 1992 to October 2003 and served as its Vice President & General Manager Calavo de Mexico International. Mr. Watts joined Calavo Growers in 1981 at its Processed Products Division. He served as Packinghouse Manager of Calavo Growers since 1984 and assumed responsibility for the design and construction of all phases of Calavo Growers Inc.'s Temecula, California packinghouse. Since 1990, he served as Director of Fresh Operations of Calavo Growers Inc.'s field and packing operations. In 1998, Mr. Watts assumed responsibility for the design and construction of Calavo Growers Inc.'s state of the art packing facility in Uruapan, Mexico and implemented processes for supporting the procuring, packing and shipping of Mexican grown avocados to any global location. Mr. Watts has also served on the California Avocado Commission Industry Affairs Committee and as Chairman and Member of the California Avocado Inspection Board.
