Mr. Jeffrey G. Clevenger served as the Chief Executive Officer at Golden Minerals Company (formerly Apex Silver Mines ) from May 2009 to September 1, 2015. Mr. Clevenger served as President of Golden Minerals Company since March 2009 to May 21, 2015. He has more than 35 years of mining experience, primarily at a senior management level with Apex Silver Mines Limited, Cyprus Amax Minerals Company and Phelps Dodge Corporation. From 2004 to 2009 he served as Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Apex Silver Mines where he led the construction of the $1 billion San Cristobal mine in Bolivia. From 1992 to 1999, while reporting to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cyprus Amax, with active participation at the Board level, he served as the Chief Operating Officer and President of a large integrated copper producer (one billion pounds per annum) and the world's largest molybdenum producer. He has been the Chairman of Golden Minerals Company since March 2009. Mr. Clevenger was one of a five member Policy Committee for the parent Cyprus Amax Minerals Company and responsible for 4500 employees with producing assets in the U.S., Europe, Chile and Peru. During his tenure at Cyprus, copper production increased by more than 65% while costs lowered by nearly 30%. Mr. Clevenger led the effort for Cyprus that resulted in being awarded Peru's first tender in the privatization process, acquiring the Cerro Verde property; and Chile's first tender in the privatization process through the Cyprus acquisition of El Abra. Mr. Clevenger led the Cerro Verde $230 million modernization and expansion, which resulted in increasing production from 60 to 150 million pounds and decreasing costs from $0.80 to $0.45 per pound over a five year period; and the $1 billion construction of the world's largest SX/EW at El Abra, which was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Mr. Clevenger was responsible for exploration activities ($15 - $40 million per year), primarily conducted in South America, Zambia, Papua New Guinea and Australia. While at Phelps Dodge Corporation from 1989 to 1992, Mr. Clevenger was President and GM of Phelps Dodge Morenci Inc., which was a joint venture between Sumitomo and Phelps Dodge. There he managed an annual operating budget of $400 million and capital budget of $100 million and oversaw an aggressive exploration program and analysis of the Safford copper district. While at Morenci he led several cost reduction initiatives, most notably replacing the rail system with the installation of a $50 million in pit crushing and conveying system. From 1987 to 1988, Mr. Clevenger was the Assistant General Manager at Chino Mines Company, a joint venture between a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Mining and Phelps Dodge, where he had responsibility for all mining, concentrating, smelting, leaching and engineering functions, including 1100 employees. From 1986 to 1987, he was General Superintendent of Phelps Dodge Morenci, where his responsibilities included mining, engineering and administrative activities of the largest operating mine in North America. While at Phelps Dodge from 1986 to 1973, Mr. Clevenger had progressive career growth from Engineer to Mine Superintendent at Tyrone. He holds a B.S. in Mining Engineering with honors, from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 1973 and Advanced International Senior Management Program (AMP; ISMP) from Harvard University in 1996.
