Mr. Matthew J. Desch, also known as Matt, serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Iridium Satellite LLC. Mr. Desch has been the Chief Executive Officer of Iridium Satellite LLC since September 21, 2006. Mr. Desch has been the Chief Executive Officer of Iridium Communications Inc. since September 21, 2006. He serves as Member of the Executive Board of the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), the US industry standards organization. He has more than 27 years of leadership and industry experience. Mr. Desch served as Chief Executive Officer of Telcordia Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Science Applications International Corp. from July 2002 to 2005. Prior to joining Telcordia, he spent 13 years (from 1987 to May 2000) at Nortel Networks in a wide range of senior management positions, including his most recent as President of the Global Service Providers division, where he succeeded in growing it carrier business in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Prior to joining Nortel, he spent seven years managing software development and strategic planning activities at&T Bell Labs and AT&T Network Systems (now Lucent Technologies). He was associated with interWAVE Communications International, Ltd., and EDCI Holdings, Inc. From 1996 to May 2000, he served as an Executive Vice President and President of Nortel's Wireless Networks division, responsible for Nortel's global wireless infrastructure business. He serves on two boards of corporations offering emerging technologies to the communications industry - Airspan, a leading public supplier of wireless DSL infrastructure for global communications operators and Flarion, a private New Jersey based company which develops a unique, 4th generation wireless wide area LAN technology for cellular/PCS operators. He served as the Chairman of Airspan Networks Inc. since July 1, 2000 and served as its Director. Mr. Desch served as the Chairman of the Board of Iridium Communications Inc. He served as Chairman of the Board and Director of Cyneta Networks Inc. He served as Non-Executive Chairman of Telcordia Technologies Inc., from 2002 to September 1, 2005. He serves as a Director of Glenayre Communications and Celerica, Inc. He serves as Member of Board of Advisors at Tango Networks, Inc. He serves as Trustee of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He has been a Director of Iridium Communications Inc. since September 2009 and Starent Networks LLC since July 10, 2006. He has been Member of Advisory Board of Genband Inc., since April 19, 2006. He served as a Director of Telcordia Technologies Inc., since October 2002 and Science Applications International Corp. since 2002. He served as Director of Leidos Holdings, Inc since October 2002. He served as Director of Taqua LLC, MobileQ, Inc. and QUALCOMM Flarion Technologies, Inc. Active in the wireless industry since 1991, Mr. Desch served positions in the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) and Personal Communications Industry Associations (PCIA) and was an early Chairman of the Wireless Foundation. He serves as a Director of Aireon LLC. He serves as a Trustee, Member of Strategy and Growth Committee and Member of Compensation, Organization and HR Committee at Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He joined the AOPA Board of Trustees in 2011, having been an AOPA member since 1976 and a member of the AOPA Foundation Board of Visitors since 2008. Matt earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1976 and holds a Commercial certificate with Instrument and Multi-engine land ratings. He has more than 1600 flight hours today and owns a Cessna T210 based at Leesburg Executive (KJYO). He holds a B.S. Degree in Computer Science from Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
