Mr. David L. Starling, also known as Dave, has been Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer at Kansas City Southern since July 1, 2016. Mr. Starling served as the Chief Executive Officer at The Kansas City Southern Railway Company. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Kansas City Southern (KCS) from August 1, 2010 to July 1, 2016. He served as the President at Kansas City Southern (KCS) from July 1, 2008 to March 2015 and The Kansas City Southern Railway Company. Mr. Starling has expertise in the North American Rail Industry and in intermodal and global shipping logistics. His 30 years of operating experience helped navigate KCS through the economic downturn and established longterm, sustainable operating efficiencies. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of Kansas City Southern from July 1, 2008 to August 1, 2010. He served as the President and Director General of The Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC) since 1999 until June 2008 and also served as its Chief Executive Officer. He headed The Panama Canal Railway, for nine years. He has a 23-year industry career, from helping Mi-Jack create a terminal operating firm to running stack train operations in Chicago and later the southern region for American President Lines, as well as postings in Asia for APL. He began his railroad career in 1971 with the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad (Frisco) and for 14 years, he held various positions in rail operations at Frisco and later Burlington Northern (BN). In 1984, Mr. Starling joined Mi-Jack Products to help create a terminal operating company, In-Terminal Services (ITS), as General Manager. He served as Vice President of ITS and launched an aggressive marketing strategy resulting in very rapid growth over a four year period. In 1988, he joined American President Lines (APL) as Managing Director of stack train operations for the Chicago region and later the Southern region, where he was heavily involved with the implementation of dedicated double stack trains from the Detroit area to Hermosillo, Mexico for Ford, to Monterrey, Mexico for General Motors and to Toluca, Mexico for Chrysler. From 1993 to 1994, he served as Managing Director of the Philippines for APL and was responsible for all regional functions including financial, legal and governmental relations. Since 1995, he served as APL's Managing Director for Hong Kong/South China region and served as its Vice President of Central Asia responsible for China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He serves as Chairman of Kansas City Southern de M???xico S.A. de C.V. and The Kansas City Southern Railway Company. He has been Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Panama Canal Railway Company and Panarail since July 2008. He served as Vice President of the Board of Directors at Kansas City Southern de M???xico S.A. de C.V. since September 2009. He has been an Independent Director of The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. since June 29, 2017. He served as a Director of Ferrellgas, Inc., the General Partner of Ferrellgas Partners LP, Ferrellgas Partners Finance Corp. and Ferrellgas L P since February 27, 2014 until November 15, 2017. He has been a Director of The Kansas City Southern Railway Company since July 2008. He served as a Director of Kansas City Southern from May 6, 2010 to May 31, 2017. In 2012, Mr. Starling was awarded Railway Age's prestigious Railroader of the Year award.
