Exciting diverse work, good pay, no work-life balance, difficult to specialize given that research funds drive the type of work. No support for low-level managers.
True leadership is virtually nonexistent.
Lab director and his hand picked subordinates are so out of touch consider regular staff to be unworthy of consideration. Decisions are forced down. Speaking up is discouraged through retaliation directly from the lab director and assistant lab directors. Morale is something of no concern to them
