Good place to work. Great benefits and work life balance

Lack of support for group leaders. Expectations to work over 40 hrs per week. Short term (ie bring more money) vision/strategy. No mentoring or development of staff.

ORNL has lofty ideals which they rarely achieve. Management is all talk and no action with absolutely NO respect for the employees

30 years on site and the current senior leadership is the absolute worse. Almost like a cancer

Lab director and his hand picked subordinates are so out of touch consider regular staff to be unworthy of consideration. Decisions are forced down. Speaking up is discouraged through retaliation directly from the lab director and assistant lab directors. Morale is something of no concern to them

A finding of fault from an assessment of our compensation system indicated that the granualarity of job descriptions and titles was very poor. All compensation is based on your job title, yet everyone is lumped into such large categories your skills, degrees, and productivity are averaged away.

Consistency in policy application, ability to make decisions without so much control, ability to hire staff in support positions to alleviate extreme work load.

It takes months from applying to get a phone call. Months from the phone call, to get an in-person interview. Months from the interview to get an offer. It takes more than 6-months. The hiring staff are not knowledgeable or consistent in their statements.

Better communication. The process took too long and there was a big black hole with no communication.
