The work life balance is a balance. Are there times when workload on a project becomes heavy? Yes. Does leadership care? Also yes. Examples that I've seen that attempt to help when teams go above and beyond - taking action to reduce heavy loads and stress, increased bonuses, promotion opportunity, onsite message, team outings or happy hours. Having worked for a number of organizations, I find the workload to be onpar with many other organizations. A differentiator, from an engineer's perspective, is that leadership truly tries to manage those times. Beyond workload, the office culture is very open and collaborative. People enjoy each other's company, with frequent game nights, self improvement from each other, happy hours, etc. Working remotely is possible. Work hours are also flexible. Need to pick up kids or wait for plumber? No problem. Leave early to beat traffic across town? No Problem.
