Mr. Peter S. Garcia, also known as Pete, has been the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President at PDL BioPharma, Inc. since May 13, 2013. Mr. Garcia served as the Chief Financial Officer and Principal Accounting Officer of Asterias Biotherapeutics, Inc. Mr. Garcia served as Acting Chief Accounting Officer of PDL BioPharma, Inc. from May 13, 2013 to July 24, 2013. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of BioTime, Inc. from October 4, 2011 to June 11, 2013 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer until June 11, 2013. Mr. Garcia lead the accounting, finance and investor relations functions at BioTime, Inc. Mr. Garcia served as the Chief Financial Officer of Marina Biotech, Inc. (formerly MDRNA, Inc.) from July 13, 2009 to September 1, 2011. He served as Secretary of MDRNA Inc. since July 13, 2009. Mr. Garcia served as Principal Accounting Officer of MDRNA, Inc. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of both public and private life science and high technology companies for the past 13 years. Mr. Garcia served as Chief Financial Officer of Nanosys Inc. from July 2004 to 2008 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer. He was responsible for finance, facilities, information technology and investor and government relations. Mr. Garcia served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nuvelo Inc., from May 2001 to July 2004, Secretary since January 2003 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer. From May 2000 to April 2001, Mr. Garcia served as the Chief Financial Officer of Novacept, Inc., Chief Financial Officer and Consultant at IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, Inc., from January 1999 to April 2000 and Chief Financial Officer at Dendreon Corporation from July 1996 to December 1998. Prior to this experience, he worked at Amgen Inc., from 1990 to 1996 in a variety of financial executive positions, including Assistant Corporate Controller. Mr. Garcia holds a B.A. Degree in Economics and Sociology from Stanford University in 1983 and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in finance and accounting from the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1985.
