Dr. Steven Keith Burke, MD, has been the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Proteon Therapeutics Inc since August 2006. Dr. Burke served as Senior Vice President of medical and regulatory affairs of Genzyme Drug Discovery and Development. Prior to Genzyme, he served as Vice President of Clinical Research of GelTex Pharmaceuticals. At GelTex and Genzyme, Dr. Burke obtained broad experience in all phases of drug development, from IND to NDA approval, including post-approval outcomes studies. He began his career as an Associate Director at Glaxo, Inc. from 1992 to 1994. He worked on two drugs that were eventually approved in the United States at Glaxo, Inc. Dr. Burke is an accomplished researcher, possessing drug development knowledge and experience in metabolism, renal, gastroenterology, infectious disease, oncology and dermatology. He served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology, at the University of North Carolina from 1993 to 1994. Dr. Burke also served as a Staff Physician, Gastroenterology, at the Brockton/West Roxbury VA Medical Center from 1995 to 1998. He was a Research Fellow in Gastroenterology from 1991 to 1992 and a Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology from 1990 to 1991 at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Burke has a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Harvard College and holds a medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.
