He is the Founder and Owner of Axiom Bank and also served as its Principal. He founded District Cablevision Inc. in 1980 and serves as its President. He founded Urban Trust Bank in 1962 and is the Owner and also served as its Principal. He is the Founder of RLJ-McLarty-Landers Automotive Holdings, LLC and served as its Principal. He is the Owner of the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA. He is a Majority Owner at Hornets Basketball Holdings, LLC. He is also the Majority Owner at Urban Trust Bank Holdings, Inc., and RLJ-McLarty-Landers Automotive Holdings, LLC. He Co-Founded RLJ Lodging Trust in 2011 and also has been its Executive Chairman since 2011. He founded Black Entertainment Television LLC. He serves as the Executive Chairman of The Board at Image Entertainment, Inc. He is the Founder of The RLJ Companies, LLC and serves as its Chairman. He is the Founder of RLJ Entertainment, Inc. and has been its Executive Chairman since October 2012. He serves as an Executive Director at RLJ Entertainment, Inc. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at The RLJ Companies. Prior to RLJ Companies, he founded Black Entertainment Television, Inc., in 1979 and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 1980 to 2005 and President since 1979. Under his leadership, BET became the first African American owned company publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2001, he sold BET to Viacom and founded BET Holdings, LLC in 1979 served as its Chairman from 1980 to January 2006, Chief Executive Officer from 1991 to June 2006 and President from 1991 to March 1996. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of US Airways Group, Inc. He served as a Press Secretary of the Honorable Walter E. Fauntroy, Congressional Delegate from 1973 to 1976. Mr. Johnson holds a Master's Degree in International Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies from the University of Illinois.
