We've reorganized our dev teams to fit new goals as we've grown. So there is a history of some shuffling around. When we've reorganized our teams, my managers met with me to discuss whether I'd prefer to stick close to my current projects or to explore new parts of the app. I feel like they try to take strengths and preferences into account. Other than that, if you express to your manager that you are interested in trying something new, I fully believe they'd try their best to make it work. Or if a full switch isn't possible at the time, they'd actively help get you involved in cross-team work with your target team.
