Promotions are few and far between as you have no way to really demonstrate increased responsibility, take on new roles or responsibilities. You just hope you’re on the good side of your manager. Can be a senior engineer after a year of graduating, could have 10 years of experience and be a staff engineer. Little transparency in the position structure with the engineering staff.
