Ms. Dawn Lorraine Farrell has been the Chief Executive Officer and President at TransAlta Corporation since January 2, 2012. Ms. Farrell served as the Chief Operating Officer of TransAlta Corporation from April 28, 2009 to 2011. Ms. Farrell served as an Executive Vice-President of Corporate Development and Marketing of TransAlta Utilities Corporation she served as an Executive Vice-President of Engineering Aboriginal Relations and Generation of BC Hydro. She served as an Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations & Development at TransAlta Corporation from 2007 to 2009. She has over 30 years of experience in the electric energy industry, holding roles at TransAlta and BC Hydro. As part of her 25-year career in the industry, she served as an Executive Vice-President of Corporate Development, Executive-Vice President of Independent Power Projects and Vice-President of Energy Marketing and IPP Development at TransAlta Corporation. Ms. Farrell served as President of TransAlta Energy Marketing, TransAlta's energy marketing subsidiary; TransAlta Wind and TransAlta Cogeneration, L.P. She served as an Executive Vice-President of Corporate Development and Marketing at TransAlta Corporation since July 2007. From 2003 to 2006, Ms. Farrell served as an Executive Vice President of Generation at BC Hydro. In June 2006, she served as an Executive Vice-President of Engineering, Aboriginal Relations and Generation of BC. She serves as chairperson the Board for TransAlta Cogeneration which jointly owns assets across Canada with Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited (CKI). She served as Chairperson of Powertech Labs of BC Hydro since March 15, 2007. She has been an Independent Director of The Chemours Company since 2012. She has been a Director of Powertech Labs since February 26, 2007 and Canadian Hydro Developers, Inc. since October, 2009. Ms. Farrell has been a Non-Independent Director of TransAlta Corporation since January 1, 2012. She serves as a Director at Calgary Stampede and Mount Royal College Board of Governors. Ms. Farrell served as an Independent Director of Fording (GP) ULC, a subsidiary of Fording Canadian Coal Trust, Inc. since 2004. She served as a Board member include Fording Coal Income Fund, New Relationship Trust Fund, Mount Royal College Foundation, Mercury Electric and Vision Quest Windelectric. She served as a Director of TransAlta Cogeneration, L.P. and TransAlta Power, L.P. She also serves on the Canadian Federal Government's Advisory Council for Promoting Women on Boards headed by the Honourable Rona Ambrose. From 2008 to 2009, she served as Co-Chair of the Government of Canada's Wind Technology Roadmap Industry Steering Committee. In 2013, she joined Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson to serve as Co-Chair of Calgary's 2013 United Way Campaign. She has been an active supporter of the community Ms. Farrell holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance and a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Calgary. She has also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.
