How are layoffs handled in the Operations department at Google?

I feel that I have been targeted at Google for termination. I am an older engineer and usually assigned open ended problem to solve each quarter with unreasonable time lines. Younger engineers at the same level are allowed to work on frontend development, but I am not allowed to. I've told that I was too senior to work in that area, but how can that be so when there is another engineer at my level working on frontend?
