Mr. David S. Lee is Senior Vice President of Capital Fixed Income Investors and Portfolio Manager at Capital Research and Management Company. Mr. Lee joined the firm in 2001. Previously, he spent two years at Pacific Investment Management Company as a Vice President and Credit Analyst. Mr. Lee earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and both an M.S. and B.S. from Stanford University in Engineering.

There needs to be more value placed on the human element. People who work the phones—even a call center enviroment—need lives and time off. Middle management should not feel so much pressure to micromanage and look at human beings as statistics first, people last.

My coworkers are good people. The culture is a bit stuffy at times—feels unreal, a bit like the Stepford wives some days—and the manager does a bit too much micromanaging.
