The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a unique national research facility that carries out robotic space and Earth science missions. JPL helped open the Space Age by developing America's first Earth-orbiting science satellite, creating the first successful interplanetary spacecraft, and sending robotic missions to study all the planets in the solar system as well as asteroids, comets and Earth's moon. Salary is clearly not a focus at JPL and is negatively impacted by limitations on science funding by the government. The benefits are pretty good.

Though JPL has made big strides forwards, it still has a relatively old work-force. This not only makes it harder for younger employees to achieve promotions, it also sets the organization up for severe staffing issues as established employees retire.

Having worked here for almost a decade, I have yet to meet even one person who I found unpleasant. People will disagree, sometimes heatedly, but I feel that I have been treated with disrespect very rarely, and usually as the result of a misunderstanding.
