Mr. Robert M. Mahoney, also known as Bob, serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of BSB Bancorp, Inc. (Massachusetts) and Belmont Savings Bank. Prior to joining Belmont Savings Bank in May, 2010, Mr. Mahoney served as an Executive Vice Chairman of Citizens Financial Group, Inc. (CFG) until retiring in 2008. He joined CFG in 1993 as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts after serving 22 years in various domestic and international management positions at Bank of Boston. During his five years as President of Citizens in Massachusetts, Mr. Mahoney led the new bank through significant expansion. From 1999 to 2003, he was responsible for CFG's Risk Management including Credit, Compliance and Operational Risk areas. In 2004, Mr. Mahoney led all of the Retail and Commercial Banking activity in New England and later he took over responsibility for Commercial Banking across the company. He has held several community leadership positions in Massachusetts. He is the Past Chairman of the United Way Board of Directors and Executive Committee and serves on the University of Massachusetts Amherst Foundation board. He is also a co-founder of Community Gems, a collaboration of non-profit agencies that work together with community partners to meet the diverse needs of Greater Boston's youth and families. He served as a board member of the Sitel Worldwide Corporation until September 18, 2015. He has been a Director of BSB Bancorp, Inc. (Massachusetts) since 2010. He serves as Director of International Data Group. Mr. Mahoney is also Chair of the Financial Services Committee of the Finance Council of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. He received the 1996 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Massachusetts, the 2006 Columbia University, School of Business Leadership Award and is the recipient of the 2009 Henry L. Shattuck Boston City Champion Award for public service. He is a Member of Advisory Board of neoSaej Corp. Recently, Mr. Mahoney was selected by Boston Business Journal readers as the Most-Admired CEO of a small or mid-sized company in Massachusetts. Mr. Mahoney received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1971. He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
