I would empower my strongest workers to be the self motivated leaders that they naturally are. I would ask more of the "do just enough to get by" group to help even the work load and keep my strongest from burning out. I also would reward my strongest workers occasionally. Nothing random about it and i would make it known. I would hope this tactic would encourage my unmotivated workers to step up and bring more to the table, as they would also be rewarded for doing so. As for the rest, anyone who comes to work and does nothing for 12hrs I would view as usless and expendable. So, if you came to work under me and did nothing for your whole shift, it would be the last day you would be allowed in the gate. Period!
People used to speak highly of DuPont when reflecting upon the "good times." Times when employees could travel to sites more often, times when the company provided better benefits (pension, high value awards, house purchases for company moves, etc.) and times when the engineering staff was larger and had more expertise. Those times are gone and yet we are stuck with visions of what was once an impressive organization. Leaders know what they would have to do to improve the culture, but shareholder greed has stiffed the ability to provide those types of benefits.
overhaul management and get some people that actually have working experience
Go back to treating everyone as one big family.
Get rid of DuPont
