Mr. Yash A. Rana serves as Chair of The Hong Kong Office and Head of Asia Practice at Goodwin Procter LLP. Mr. Rana served as a Partner in Private Equity and Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Goodwin Procter LLP and Head of its India Practice. He served as Vice President of Qwest Capital Funding, Inc. Mr. Rana's practice includes representing strategic and financial clients in cross border mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyout transactions, early and late stage venture capital and growth equity investments, PIPEs, joint ventures and other corporate transactions. He has extensive knowledge of the communications industry, including communications services, fiber builders and related construction services. Mr. Rana has represented clients in such diverse industries as media, financial services, consumer goods, manufacturing, energy, cleantech and technology, including software, internet services, video and internet game development, online advertising, electronic trading platforms and hardware. Mr. Rana has over 10 years of experience advising companies, sponsors and promoters in mergers and acquisitions and financing transactions. Among other Goodwin Procter clients, he has represented AIG, General Catalyst Partners, Goldman Sachs, Highland Capital Partners, J.P. Morgan, Lincolnshire Management, TA Associates and Viacom (and its MTV Networks division). Mr. Rana has also represented major investment banks in offerings and as financial advisors to companies engaged in mergers and acquisitions. Before joining Goodwin Procter in 2005, Mr. Rana oversaw mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions for Qwest Communications International Inc. and was a transactional lawyer at O'Melveny & Myers LLP in New York. While at Qwest, Mr. Rana was instrumental in executing several complex transactions, including Qwest's acquisitions of US West and LCI Communications; the sale of Qwest's directories business to The Carlyle Group and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe in one of the largest leveraged buyouts at the time; PIPE transactions involving BellSouth and Microsoft; Qwest's $13 billion debt exchange offer; and the initial public offering of KPNQwest. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Qwest Foundation, the charitable arm of Qwest. Mr. Rana's prior experience also includes representation of the Anschutz group, TCW and GTE/Verizon. He holds J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1995 and B.A. from Knox College in 1992.
