There are a lot of answers. Many of the sellers are OK -- nice enough people, but really don't understand the technology. The tech sellers are pretty good. Most know their area, but not many are deep into the rest of their portfolio. Developers and services people are really diverse. Some are very knowledgeable and will do anything to help you or the customer. There are many, however, that are just not qualified to do the jobs they've been hired for. I saw this especially with some of the labs outside of the United States or Western Europe (except the Israelis who are, to a person, amazing). IBM's culture does tend toward "blame." Don't expect a manager to back you or to fall on her sword. Many people hold grudges and will find ways to get back at someone they don't like. This anti-team culture is more common in IBM than I have seen elsewhere. It really comes out when things are not going well, either financially or the group/product/headcount is threatened.
The 'workers' at IBM are fantastic: supportive, great teammates, highly intelligent and over achievers. This is in the face of massive reductions over the years - which means taking on extra work, etc at the same pay. The 'regular workers' are the ones that have propped IBM up after consistently cutting talented people.
The only good thing left at this company are my co-workers who have been around for years. On the flip side we are all looking over our shoulder to see who is stabbing us and who is next on the list of layoffs.. so sad
Individually - awesome, talented, collegial. Collectively - looking over their shoulder for the next "downsizing" activity. Virtually everyone I know is ready for a career refresh - elsewhere.
Mine are all great given they came in via the same acquisition, the other IBMer's are a mix some good and some not so welcoming
New employees are not educated in "the process", acquired employees are driven and quality, until they are laid off.
All kinds. Some are excellent, others not so much. Everyone is highly motivated though.
co workers were cool, just moral was/is very very low!
