What are the team outings like at IBM?

Very open and social. Easy to talk to managers and executives. Most are eager to share their experience with you and get to know you as a person. Some are simply happy hours while others involve activities like Yoga, Running, Bowling, etc.

Rare, if at all. At MOST you'll get a year end dinner, IF your group has budget. Other than that, if your team is collegial enough, it might spontaneously organize happy hours where everyone buys their own drinks.

Outings? Who told you that? IBM does not sponsor anything. If your team wants to have an outing, you have to pay for it and can't be associated with IBM

Ha - spend money on anything but exec bonuses? You can’t even get approval to have desperately needed team work meetings so there’s zero $s available for anything

happy hours on thursday are nice. Then they laid off our entire department and the people left stopped doing anything.

There were very few. The few they had were pretty nice.
