Prof. David A. Edwards, Ph.D. has been Advisor at PureTech Health plc since January 27, 2016. Prof. Edwards is a Co-Founder of Advanced Inhalation Research. Prof. Edwards is the SEAS Professor of the Practice of Idea Translation. He is a Faculty Associate at Center for Nanoscale Systems. He is also a Founder of Le Laboratoire. Prof. Edwards is Gordon McKay Professor of the Practice of Biomedical Engineering at Harvard University, where his work focuses on the fields of fluid mechanics, interfacial transport phenomena, drug delivery and aerosol science. He is a Professor of biotechnology at the University of Harvard. He is Founder of ArtScience Labs. He is a Founder of Quantum Designs, LLC. He is the Founder of WikiFoods, Vapor Communications and Cafe ArtScience and WikiCell Designs, Inc. He founded Pulmatrix, Inc. in 2003. He served as Advisor of SEAS. He was Co-Founder and Advisor of The Experiment Fund. He also founded The Cloud Foundation and L'Association Nuage. He founded AeroDesigns, Inc. in 2009. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the international not-for-profit Medicine in Need (MEND). Prof. Edwards serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Pulmatrix, Inc. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Activaero GmbH and Vectura GmbH. He also serves as a Member of the Advisory Board at the Center for Civilian Biodefense Strategies, Johns Hopkins University. He serves as Director of Le Laboratoire, ArtScience Labs, Quantum Designs, LLC. and AeroDesigns, Inc. Prof. Edwards served as a Director of Pulmatrix, Inc. Prof. Edwards served as a Director of Eurofins Cerep SA (Cerep SA) since 2003. He is a biomedical engineer and writer actively involved in the translation of ideas from the university through novel medical technology and the writing, performing and visual arts. His scientific research concerns the mathematical design of novel physical parameters that allow nanostructured materials to efficiently deliver drugs and vaccines to the lungs and other human organs, with a special focus on infectious diseases in developing world nations. Current work in his laboratory includes the development of a platform for the delivery of scent in global communications for health and human betterment and edible packaging solutions for food and beverage products as vectors for improved health and environmental sustainability. Prof. Edwards has published over 70 papers on the aerosol delivery of macromolecules to the lung and a variety of related subjects. He is the winner of various national and international awards including the Theodor Herzl Award of the Jersusalem Fund and the Municipality of Jerusalem, the Smoluchowski Award of the European Aerosol Association and the Professional Progress Award of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Prof. Edwards is a three time awardee of the Ebert Prize of the American Pharmaceutical Association (1996, 1997 and 1999). He wrote Artscience: Creativity in the post-Google Generation (Harvard University Press, 2008), The Lab: Creativity and Culture (Harvard University Press 2010), and co-authored Niche (Ecole de Beaux Arts de Paris). For his work in the arts in France he was made a Chevalier dans l???ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. He has published two textbooks (Interfacial Tranport Properties and Rheology, 1991 and Macrotransport Processes, 1993) and is the author of numerous patents in the area of drug delivery, with a special focus on novel medical aerosols. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering. Prof. Edwards is the co-author of numerous scientific publications in the fields of fluid mechanics, interfacial transport phenomena, drug delivery and aerosol science.
