More cross training would improve the effectiveness of teams and increase communication and bonding among individuals. It would especially help if people with more seniority had opportunities to see how other teams are doing things, or experience the pipeline from differing roles and perspectives.
Some of the management is there because of seniority and not competence. In skill based roles it might be good to put upper management back into school or to keep them focused on directional and not competency based roles.
